KAMPALA — We’re learning more about the multiple explosions on Saturday night in Kisaasi a few kilometers away from the city centre.

Joanita Namukwaya had just left a fitness center at around 9:00PM when a possible gas explosion Saturday shattered buildings— destroying property.

Namukwaya says she has seen big fires before, but not anything like this of massive explosions on Saturday night.

“Whenever it happened, it kind of sounded like an Alshabab bombs in movies,” she says.

“There’s a small retail shop of PET gas canisters that has caught fire on Ssebagala road. The cylinders are exploding one at a time. Enju yona yasya. We are not sure if the people have survived,” another eyewitness wrote.

“It was serious….house burnt to the ground…we all ran out of our houses,” another one wrote.

Residents say, following the explosion, Umeme has cut of electricity in the Kisaasi, Kyanja and surrounding areas to protect further damages.

Kisaasi gas explosion: Police speaks out

News footage and social media video showed firefighters arriving at the scene.

Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said property was destroyed but no death of persons confirmed so far.

He said the police’s firefighter are at the scene to put out the fire.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the house was having a lot of gas cylinders and each were going off one at time making multiple blasts.
