Team Uganda receives heroic welcome from Doha

KAMPALA —Ugandan Athletics have on Monday evening arrived home after a successful campaign in Doha, Qatar where Uganda Wildlife Authority’s Halima Nakaayi and Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda Police bagged gold in their respective races.

On arrival, the National Athletic Federation hosted the team to a welcome dinner at Hotel African on Monday evening.

Steven Kiprotich team captain Uganda appreciated the support of Ugandans and his teammates most especially Halima Nakaayi and Joshua Cheptegei for hunting down the enemy and bringing glory home.

The president National Athletic Federation noted that Uganda was third in Africa medal standings and ranked 9th world over thanks to the two excellent performances.

Uganda has never won two medals in one competition before.

President UAF thanked the clubs; Uganda Wildlife Authority and Police for preparing the athletes.

He implored upon them to promote them in appreciation of the wonderful efforts.

Executive Director – UWA thanked Team Uganda for the excellent job done because a healthy body cultivates a great mind.

He noted that UWA understands the need to be fit and encourages and ensures a conducive environment for staff to do sports so that they deliver.

He applauded Team Uganda for the great teamwork.

On behalf of UWA, ED pledged to promote the athletes to new ranks.

Halima Nakaayi appreciated Uganda Wildlife Authority, for the work well done, some of the coaches like coach Ndiwa for mentoring her and her colleagues for teamwork.

She encouraged all fellow athletes to be resilient and persevere as success is gradual.

She argued for patience and hard work and promised that more medals are surely enroute.
