Express FC got their CECAFA Kagame Cup off to a winning start as they defeated South Sudan’s Atlabara FC 1-0 on Monday afternoon.

Forward Eric Kambale scored the only goal of the game, dispatching a penalty after he was brought down by Sunday Makoy, in the area.

The Red Eagles were dominant in the first half and could have added a second but Martin Kizza’s effort rattled the crossbar.

However, everything changed with 21 minutes to play as vice captain Abel Etrude was sent off for dangerous play on Enarndez Terra as the duo contested an aerial ball.

Atlabara who had struggled for most of the game picked-up momentum after the sending off and Simon Obligi forced debutant Joel Mutakubwa into a finger-tip save before Kambale cleared the Red Eagles lines to some-how preserve their lead.

In the end, Wasswa Bbosa’s side held on to what may prove to be three vital point in the group.

The opening group A game saw Young Africans and Big Bullets FC end 1-1 on Sunday.

Express lead the group with three points while Atlabara are bottom, after one game played.
