CECAFA Kagame Cup: Azam hands KCCA first loss in Group B

Azam FC defeated KCCA 2-0 at the CECAFA Kagame Cup on Monday evening.

The Tanzanian side proved too much for the Kasasiros as they won the contest played qat the Azam Complex.

After a goalless first half, Peter Kasunda scored twice in the second (half) to ensure Azam climbs top of group B.

KCCA had good chances throughout the game but could not convert on what was a frustrating outing for Morley Byekwaso’s side.

Gift Ali shot wide, Denis Iguma headed onto the cross bar and Julius Poloto fired straight at Benedict Haule in the first half.

Poloto and Iguma were both denied by the post, in the second half, before substitute Samuel Ssenyonjo headed over from close range.

Late in the contest, Bright Anukani and Ali missed the target by a whisker with efforts from outside the area.

The result sees KCCA sink to the bottom of group B after one game with no points accumulated.

Messager Ngozi and KMKM drew 1-1 in the opening game of group B while Uganda’s other representative in the competition-Express FC defeated South Sudan’s Atlabara 1-0 in group A.

KCCA’s next match will be on Thursday against KMKM at the Azam Complex.

Azam FC

Benedict Haule (GK), Gadafi Said, Pascal Msindo, Lusajo Mwaikenda, Oscar Masai, Masoud Hamad, Samuel Onditi, Awesu Ally, Idd Kipagwile, Tepsi Theonasy, Paul Peter Kasunda.
