KAMPALA – Uganda Olympic Committee – UOC president William Blick dearly welcomed the election of National Council of Sports – NCS chairman, Donald Rukare as the next olympic movement boss.

Blick made the remarks as he addressed the media at a function at which the returning officer, Sim Katende unveiled the list of contestants for the different positions at Lugogo on Tuesday.

Rukare was declared unopposed, replacing Blick while Dunstan Nsubuga and Moses Mwase were elected first and second vice presidents; Beatrice Ayikoru becomes the Secretary-General with Uganda Volleyball Federation boss – Sadiq Nasiwu taking up the treasurership post. The elections only awaits ratification on February 27.

Anne Mungoma and Joanne Adongo both Executive board members were also unopposed. Only Simon Peter Komakech, Nas ser Sserunjogi, Richard Asiimwe, and Godwin Kayangwe will contest for the two positions of male Executive Board Members.

With public opinion divided on whether there won’t be a conflict of interest with Rukare running both posts, Blick explained that there won’t be any because the International Olympic Committee encourages them to work with NCS.
