Uganda Premier League
URA FC 0-0 Bright Stars FC
Arena of Visions, Bombo
Tuesday, 08-12-2020
URA FC head coach Sam Simbwa has come out to suggest that his side failed to beat Bright Stars FC because striker Steven Mukwala did not do his job.
The two sides drew 0-0 in their Uganda Premier League game played at the Arena of Visions on Tuesday, December 08.
“We played well and i think we should have won the game because we created a lot of scoring chances but Mukwala (Steven) didn’t do what he was supposed to do.” Simbwa said after the game.
Mukwala joined URA FC from Maroons FC in September and scored on his debut last week in a 1-1 draw away to Mbarara City FC, a game that also saw him miss a penalty.
The former Vipers SC striker who top scored in the league last season has a lot of expectations on his shoulders to ensure URA fights for the title this season.
Scoring goals has been a issue for URA in the last few seasons and it is an issue that Simbwa has always come out to suggest that, costs his side a chance to win the league.
Simbwa said that he is bothered but not yet worried because his two main striker are not available.
“It bothers me that we are not scoring enough goals at the moment but my two top strikers are out because of COVID. He continued.
“If we can bring Kigongo back as our striker, we can start scoring but hopefully the situation changes immediately.”
URA FC now have two points in as many games and will face 16-time record UPL champions SC Villa, next on Saturday.
Against Villa, Simbwa is hoping that his side will rectified the mistakes that have cost them in the opening two games.
“We are going back to the drawing board to rectify mistakes which have hindered us from winning this game and hopefully do better against SC Villa on Saturday.
“We also need to sharpen our attacking midfielders so that if Mukwala does not score, they chip in with the goals.”
Last season, URA FC scored just 29 goals in 25 games enroute to finishing 5th with 40 points.
Currently, they sit in 7th, four points behind leaders KCCA FC who have won both of their opening two games of the campaign.
For Bright Stars, they are now 12th with one point from two games after losing their opener 2-1 at home to KCCA FC.
In their next fixture, they are away to Express FC on Saturday, December 12.
