Vipers SC’s poor form in the CAF Champions League continued on Saturday as they lost 1-0 at home to Al Hilal at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

The Venoms who came into the game having lost their past two games in the competition could not add a third-ever win in African football’s lucrative club competition.

Despite a bright start that saw debutant Jamil Karisa narrowly miss the target, Fred Kajoba’s side were undone by a Waleed Bakhiet fierce drive on 25 minutes.

Vipers tried to create chances with Karim Watambala, Geoffrey Wasswa, Halid Lwaliwa and substitute Geoffrey Sserunkuma all coming close.

Al Hilal rarely troubled Vipers but could have doubled their day’s tally towards the break, only for Eid Moghaddam to head over a Nasreddin Al Shaqil cross, while unmarked in the area.

This is Vipers’ fifth loss in the competition in just seven games and are now on the brink of a third successive elimination for the CAF Champions League.

The Venoms need to win by two clear goals-in the second leg, to be played next weekend in Sudan.
