Uganda Cranes return following loss to South Sudan

ENTEBBE – The Uganda Men’s football national team, the Cranes have safely returned following their disappointing loss to South Sudan.

Johnathan McKinstry’s side was defeated 1-0 in their latest Africa Cup of nations qualifier, away to South Sudan on Monday, November 16.

In the game that was played in Kenya, Ugandan born South-Sudan international, Tito Okello scored the only goal of the game on 36 minutes, converting from the spot after a clumsy foul by Halid Lwaliwa in the penalty area.

Both sides finished with 10 men after seeing a player sent off. Khalid Aucho was shown a straight red card on 33 minutes before South Sudan also witnessed Assad Musa sent off with 11 minutes to play.

The Cranes returned to Uganda on Tuesday afternoon, less by four players.

Faruku Miya and Idrisa Lubega left on Monday night while United Kingdom based duo of Elvis Bwomono and Ronald Mukiibi departed on Tuesday.

The other 19 players all returned to Uganda along with the technical team.

Uganda’s next engagement in the AFCON qualifiers will be at home to Burkina Faso on March 22, 2021 before an away game in Malawi, eight days later.
