Saint Etienne vs Montpellier
Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, Etienne
Sunday, 01-11-2020 @5pm
Sunday’s games in Ligue 1 will kick off with Saint Etienne and Montpellier.
The home side are in 13th place after going through a poor run which has included four straight defeats in a row. Last weekend they were beaten against Metz by 2-0 and they have conceded 10 goals in that time.
It is a shock to see the clubs roles reversed as along with Rennes they had started the season so well and were the pace setters. They could climb near the top 10 with a win at the weekend.
Montpellier were shocked last weekend at home as they lost to one of the poorest sides in Ligue 1 this season, Reims.
They didn’t just lose but were destroyed as the final score finished 4-0 to Reims. This defeat has left Montpellier in 11th place and in fact they are just one point in front of their hosts.
Away form has been poor with no wins as yet from 3 games though they have drawn their last two, their last away game was against Monaco and that ended 1-1.
Last season the clubs drew this game 0-0. Saint Etienne have no wins in this fixture in the last 4 matches.
Angers vs Nice
Stade Raymond Kopa, Angers
Sunday, 01-11-2020 @5pm
Angers pulled off an impressive win last weekend as they became the first team to beat Rennes. They did it at Rennes and won the game 2-1 and the club are now in 8th place with 13 points.
Angers have been inconsistent which has just kept them from being higher in the table but they have won 50% of their games so far with just 1 defeat in their last four. Angers are looking very confident although this game on Sunday could be a tricky one.
Nice come into this fixture in 5th place and after some poor they have picked themselves up once more and have gone their last 4 games without defeat. Last weekend they drew 1-1 with Lille who are in 2nd place and they currently have the 5th best away record in the league with just 1 defeat. Their last away game ended in an impressive 3-1 victory at Saint Etienne.
Last season the clubs drew this match 1-1. Nice have not won here since 2016.
Dijon vs Lorient
Stade Gaston-Gerard, Dijon
Sunday, 01-11-2020 @5pm
Dijon are still waiting for their first win of the season and are the only team in Ligue 1 without a win now. They have 2 points and are already three points behind 19th placed Reims.
Last weekend it was all too predictable for Dijon who lost 4-0 against PSG in Paris. They have scored just 4 goals so far and have conceded 18 that is just over 2 goals on average per game so far. At home Dijon’s best result has been a 1-1 draw with Rennes.
Lorient are newly promoted and have had some positive games but could well struggle this season. They are in 17th place and have seven points so far. But they have won just once in their last five games and that was against 19th placed Reims. Last weekend Lorient lost their 5th game of the season going down at home to Marseille in a game that finished 1-0. Away from home Lorient have lost 3 from their four games though they did win their last away match against Reims.
The last time the teams played at this ground was back in 2016 when Dijon recorded a 1-0 victory. In the league Lorient have no wins over Dijon in over 10 years.
Nimes vs Metz
Stade des Costieres, Nimes
Sunday, 01-11-2020@5pm
Nimes have played some good football this season but recent poor form has seen the club move down to 16th place. They come into this encounter having lost back to back games against PSG and Bordeaux and have conceded six goals in those games alone.
Nimes last win came against Montpellier at the beginning of October and at home the club have only 1 win from their four games played which came back in August.
Metz are in 10th position and they were a club being tipped for a relegation battle but have started the season well, indeed the club have no defeats in their last five games and have earned 11 points in that time. Last weekend Metz beat Saint Etienne 2-0 and a win here could put the club in the top 8.
The last time the teams played here the game finished 1-1. Metz have no wins at Nimes in the last 15 years.
Reims vs Strasbourg
Stade Aguste Delaune II, Reims
Sunday, 01-11-2020 @5pm
Reims have had one of their worst starts to a league season in a generation and come into this game in 19th place and have lost 5 of their 8 games so far.
However last weekend they stunned everyone by going to Montpellier and winning. It was also the nature of how they won with a fantastic 4-0 victory. This from a side who have conceded 13 goals already and hadn’t kept a clean sheet before.
Reims then will be looking for their first home victory this season and if they can win they could get out of the relegation zone.
Strasbourg are in 18th place so Reims could go ahead of them on Sunday and they have 6 points. Last weekend was important because they won only their 2nd game of the season beating Brest 3-0. It was also good for them because they stopped a 3 game losing streak.
Last season in the league this fixture ended 0-0. The clubs did meet in the Coupe de la Ligue earlier this year, that game also ended 0-0. Reims last beat Strasbourg at home in 2018 winning that game 2-1.
Monaco vs Bordeaux
Stade Luis II, Monaco
Sunday, 01-11-2020 @7pm
Monaco have gone their last 3 games without a win and have slipped to 12th place and are now 7 points behind the league leaders PSG. This is disappointing for the club who wanted to challenge this season and had started fairly well. They come into this game with just 1 win in their past five but will fancy their chances to get a victory here.
Last weekend was a disaster for the club who lost 4-1 at Lyon and that game seemed to underline the difference in quality from title challengers to pretenders. Still a win at the weekend could see the club climb up to 8th place or more depending on results.
Bordeaux are in 9th place and have a point more than their hosts. Last weekend they overcame Nimes winning 2-0 and their form has improved losing just once in their last four games.
However away from home they have played 3 games and lost their last two against Marseille and Lens. Their only victory on the road so far has come against Angers and that was back in August.
The clubs drew 1-1 the last time they met in the league at Stade Louis II. The last 4 league meetings has seen both teams to score. From the last 8 meetings played at Monaco, Bordeaux has just 1 win and the last time they claimed victory here was back in 2016.
Lille vs Lyon
Stade Pierre Mauroy, Lille
Sunday, 01-11-2020 @11pm
This game has all the makings of being a titanic battle as Lille take on Lyon to get a foot holding in Ligue 1 to wrap up another weekend of games.
Lille’s form is good coming into this game and they have collected 11 points from their last 15 and sit in 2nd place. In fact it is only goal difference over PSG that is stopping them from leading in the league.
Last weekend Lille drew 1-1 at Nice but at home they have remained unbeaten with 3 wins and one draw. Their last home game finished in a fantastic 4-0 win over in form Lens and the team look powerful, strong and full of confidence.
Lyon have no defeats in their last five games and have won back to back games coming into this one. Last weekend they put down a good marker by beating Monaco 4-1 and the team are full of goals- scoring 7 in their last two games.
They have remained inconsistent away from home though with just 1 victory from the four games played.
Last season this game ended 1-0 to Lille. Lille has won the last two meetings in a row. Lyon have not beaten Lille for 8 games.
