Dortmund vs Freiburg
Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund
Saturday, 03-10-2020 @4:30pm
Borussia Dortmund were made to pay for not taking their chances in a shock 2-0 defeat to Augsburg last week and they could see less of goal in this week’s home tie with Freiburg.
The Black Forest visitors are on a good run of form in the Bundesliga, with their only defeat in their last seven games coming against Bayern Munich.
Freiburg have started the season with a win over Stuttgart and a draw with Wolfsburg and their more conservative approach could help them avoid defeat against Dortmund.
Lucien Favre’s men suffered crushing home defeats to Hoffenheim (4-0) and Mainz (2-0) at the end of last season and the loss to Augsburg emphasised that there are defensive issues which need resolving.
Freiburg may not be the sharpest going forwards but if they can nick a goal, they have the defensive resolve to see the game out.
Freiburg have lost only one of their previous seven Bundesliga fixtures. Borussia Dortmund have lost three of their previous five Bundesliga matches. Freiburg’s matches featured an average of only 2.79 goals per game last term.
Eintracht Frankfurt vs Hoffenheim
Duetsche Bank Park, Frankfurt Am Main
Saturday, 03-10-2020 @4:30pm
Hoffenheim have lost only one of their previous ten Bundesliga matches. Eintracht Frankfurt’s matches featured an average of 3.5 goals per game last campaign. Both teams scored in 23 of Eintracht Frankfurt’s 34 league matches last season.
Hoffenheim went top of the Bundesliga with their stunning 4-1 defeat of reigning German and European champions Bayern Munich last time out and they could make it three wins on the spin against Eintracht Frankfurt.
A strong end to the 2019-20 season lifted Frankfurt into the top half but they still lost 15 games and were held to a 1-1 draw with newly promoted Arminia Bielefeld in their first home match of the season.
Hoffenheim look a different side with key forward Andrej Kramaric fit and firing and have won their last five matches in the Bundesliga.
Koln vs Borussia Monchengladbach
ReihneEnergieStadion, Koln
Saturday, 03-10-2020 @4:30pm
Neither Cologne nor Borussia Monchengladbach are in good form going into their first Rhine Derby clash of the campaign and punters should instead look to back goals at the RheinEnergieStadion.
While Cologne lost both of their opening games to Hoffenheim and Arminia Bielefeld, Gladbach were held by Arminia after a 3-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.
And while they have both looked porous at the back, there’s no doubting they have attacking quality in their ranks.
Cologne fired only five blanks in 34 games last term and have added Sebastian Andersson, who netted 12 league goals in 2019-20, to the team, while Gladbach forwards Marcus Thuram, Lars Stindl and Alassane Plea scored 35 times between them last season.
Cologne’s matches featured an average of 3.53 goals per game last season. Both teams scored in 23 of Borussia Mönchengladbach’s 34 league matches last term. The four matches these two sides have played this season have featured a total 11 goals.
Werder Bremen vs Arminia Bielefeld
Wohnivest WERSERSTADION, Bremen
Saturday, 03-10-2020 @4:30pm
Four of Arminia Bielefeld’s last nine matches have finished as draws. Both teams scored in 18 of Arminia Bielefeld’s 34 matches in Bundesliga 2 last season. Werder Bremen won only two of their 17 home fixtures in last season’s Bundesliga.
Arminia Bielefeld have looked solid since their return to the Bundesliga, taking four points from their first two matches back in the top flight, and they can make life difficult for Werder Bremen.
Bremen avoided relegation only by virtue of victory in the Bundesliga playoff against Heidenheim last season and their home form was largely responsible for their disappointing finish.
Bremen lost 12 of their 17 home matches last season and that trend continued as they were battered 4-1 by Hertha Berlin in their first game at the Weserstadion this time.
Upon their return to their home venue, they will be facing a Bielefeld outfit who are less prolific in the final third but who still have the defensive resolve to grind out a point.
Stuttgart vs Bayer Leverkusen
Mercedes Benz Arena, Stuttgart
Saturday, 03-10-2020 @4:30pm
Stuttgart have so far impressed upon their return to the Bundesliga and they can make a statement with a positive result against Bayer Leverkusen, who are winless after their first two games.
Pellegrino Matarazzo’s showed great attacking incentive to smash Mainz 4-1 last time out and bring an end to Achim Beierlorzer’s tenure at the club. That win followed another commanding performance from Stuttgart against Freiburg in which they saw 65 per cent possession and won the shot count 26-7 but lost 3-2.
Should Stuttgart operate with the same attacking mentality against Bayer Leverkusen, they should be confident of getting something from the match.
Leverkusen have won only three of their last eight assignments in the Bundesliga and seem to have been hit hard by not making the Champions League places last term.
Bayer Leverkusen have won only two of their previous seven Bundesliga matches. Both teams scored in 20 of Stuttgart’s 34 Bundesliga 2 matches last season. 12 of Stuttgart’s 17 league wins in 2019-20 came at home.
RB Leipzig vs Schalke O4
Red Bull Arena, Leipzig
Saturday, 03-10-2020 @7:30pm
Leipzig have lost only one of their last five competitive matches. Schalke have conceded 20 goals in their last four Bundesliga assignments. Schalke have failed to score in three of the last four meetings between the sides.
An 8-0 demolition by champions Bayern Munich and a 3-1 loss to Werder Bremen spelt the end of David Wagner’s tenure at Schalke and the Gelsenkirchen club are unlikely to find an immediate response when they take on RB Leipzig.
Julian Nagelsmann’s Leipzig have beaten Mainz and drawn with Bayer Leverkusen in their first two league games of the season and do not seem to be missing Timo Werner, with Emil Forsberg, Dani Olmo, Marcel Sabitzer and Yussuf Poulsen all capable of shouldering the goalscoring burden.
Schalke have gone 18 matches without a win in the Bundesliga, last taking maximum points January, and they have conceded at least twice in each of their last five assignments.
