U17 girls focus on transition as preps for World Cup qualifiers continue

LUGOGO – The Uganda U17 Girls national team continued their preparations for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday.

Uganda will take on Cameroon in a two-legged tie to decide who makes it to the 2021 FIFA U17 Girls World Cup.

Under assistant coach Hadija Namuyanja, the team held a session which at Lugogo, one that revolved around transition on and off the ball.

What they said after Tuesday’s training

Fauzia Najjemba, U17 vice-captain

“We continue preparations for our upcoming engagements.

“The team is in good shape and the coaches are trying their level best.

“We are progressing very well and it is promising.”

Najjemba claims the team is in good shape.

Hadija Namuyanja, U17 assistant coach

“We held a training session this morning with focus on transition.

“We looked at situations when we are attacking and how best to execute the play.

“We also looked at situations of how to defend when we have lost the ball.

“Judging from what we have seen, the girls are still short in this aspect but we will work harder on this so as they improve.”

Uganda will host the first leg on October 31, with the return leg due in mid November in Cameroon.

The winner over two legs, will-together with two other countries represent Africa at the World Cup finals to be hosted by India early next year.
