Uganda’s middle distance running sensation Joshua Cheptegei produced a scintillating display to break the 5,000m World Record in Monaco.

Cheptegei broke the 16-year old record by almost two seconds.

After winning the 10,000m world title in Doha last year, lived up to his earlier promise of trying to beat the 5000m World Record which seemed unlikely.

With the conditions favourable, he cleared the line in 12 minutes and 35.36 seconds to set a new record.

The previous mark was set by Ethiopian running great Kenenisa Bekele in 12:37.35.
