Uganda Cup: Bright Stars suffer shock elimination at hands of Free Stars

Uganda Cup – Round of 32
Bright Stars FC 0(3) – 0(4) Free Stars FC

Friday produced the first shock of the Uganda Cup round of 32 as Bright Stars FC were eliminated from the competition at the hands of lowly Free Stars FC.

With several top flight teams securing their tickets to the last 16 in the past few days, the Stars could not do likewise as they were beaten 4-3 on penalties following a 0-0 draw in normal time.

Alfred Onek, Steven Munguchi and Bernard Muwanga did their part as the converted from the spot for the hosts.

Whoever, Ronald Sempala and his name-sake Nkonge could not attain similar success as they were both foiled.

Alfred Kitonsa missed for Free Stars but Gerrard Mayombo, Allan Opio, Derrick Mbowa and Emmanuel Anguzu found the back of the net.

Having won the Big League title back in 2012, the Star continue their wait for a second major honour.

The were beaten in the final of last year’s Uganda Cup, losing 3-4 to Proline at Masaka.

Bright Stars FC who had earlier defeated Koboko Raising Stars will now center all their attention to trying and ensure they survive relegation from the Uganda Premier League.

They currently si in 12th spot with 23 points, just a point above the drop zone.

Free Stars, who beat Saviours FC at round of 64, will extend their fairly tale at the round of 16.

In the other games played on Friday, Mbarara City FC thumped FHL 9-0 while Dove were 2-1 winners at home to Water FC.

-KCCA FC vs Bukedea
-Kitara vs Luwero
-Light SS vs Bugamba FC
