Bright Stars FC continued their surge up the top of the table thanks to a victory over Police FC at Lugogo on Tuesday.

Paul Kiwanuka’s side who ended the first round second from bottom, just about held on to beat the Cops 2-1.

After a goalless first half, Sula Ssebunza put the visitors ahead from the spot on 52 minutes after Joseph Janjali was brought down in the area.

Wakiso Giants FC on-loan winger Muwadda Mawejje then doubled Bright Stars’s advantage with the second goal of the day on 68 minutes.

Police who are usually strong at home then found a consolation through January-returnee Hood Kawesa who pounced onto a Johnson Odong cautioned header to poke into the unguarded net.

Despite late pressure by the hosts, the Stars held on to three vital points in their bid to avoid the drop this season.

Bright Stars defender Bernard Muwanga was named man of the match after the game.

Victory sees them climb into 10th spot with 26 points from 22 games. They are now on a five game unbeaten run winning four and drawing just one.

For Police, they remain third from bottom with 22 points from as many games.

In their next assignments, Police are away to Tooro United FC on Saturday while Bright Stars are at home to rock-bottom Proline on the same day.

The other game played on Tuesday

-Vipers SC 0-0 KCCA FC
-Busoga United FC 3-0 URA FC
-Wakiso Giants FC 2-1 Maroons FC
