KITENDE – Vipers SC were subjected to a second loss of the season by SC Villa on Friday afternoon.

The Venoms who had lost only to KCCA FC in the entire campaign failed to get going throughout the entire 90 minutes enabling Villa to apply the telling damage.

Bashir Mutanda who was yet to score this season netted the only goal of the game on a hot day in Kitende.

The striker connected neatly with an Ibrahim Kibumba cross to head in the winning goal which looked to have crept off Fabien Mutombora on its way in after hitting the post.

At the start of the contest, Nicholas Kabonge had shot wide after he was played through on goal by Mutanda.

Then Asuman Harishe headed wide a Kibumba corner as the Jogoos continued to look the better side in the opening exchanges.

They continued to go at Vipers and moments later, Ambrose Kirya was set up by Nicholas Kabonge but he wasted the chance.

In what was Vipers’ first real chance of the game, Allan Kayiwa shot over before Paul Willa tried his luck from distance but his effort was saved by Saidi Keni.

At the stroke of halftime, Rahmat Ssenfuka saw a fierce shot blocked for a corner before Paul Mucureezi’s subsequent header was cleared off the line.

After conceding, Vipers sent on Dan Sserunkuma in place of Bobosi Byaruhanga to try and salvage something from the contest.

With time starting to run out, Frank Tumwesigye was also introduced in place of Mucureezi.

Vipers best chance to equalize fell to top scorer Fahad Bayo but the striker could only force Keni into a comfortable save from a good position.

The result means that Vipers remain top of the standings with 42 points, four ahead of second-placed KCCA FC who beat Tooro United FC 1-0 on the same day.

For Villa qho had lost both of their two second round opening games, they now climb into third with 30 points from 18 matches.
