Goals galore as CECAFA U17 Girls Cup gets underway

CECAFA U17 Girls Cup

Monday, 09-12-2019

FUFA Technical Center, Njeru 

-Djibouti 0-14 Kenya

-Tanzania 5-0 Eritrea 

-Uganda 4-0 Burundi

The CECAFA U17 Girls Cup kicked off on Monday and it was nothing short of goals.

With all six teams in action, a total of 23 goals were scored in the three fixtures, an average of over 7 (goals) per game.

Hosts-Uganda scored the least number among the winners on the day as they put 4 past Burundi.

Captain Juliet Nalukenge scored three of Uganda’s goals with her treble coming in the first half.

Uganda’s other goal was scored 20 minutes from time through Samalie Nakacwa.

In the day’s opening fixture was one that witnessed the most goals as Kenya humiliated hapless Djibouti 14-0.

Viola Khalai scored the Lion share of the goals, netting five times on the day while Fasila Adhiambo scored four. Anna Arusi also helped herself to a hat trick while Dorine Achieng netted the other.

The other game also ended in a comfortable victory for Tanzania as they hammered hapless Eritrea 5-0.

Joyce Meshack netted a hat trick while Aisha Masaka scored the other two goals for Tanzania.

Monday’s results mean Kenya tops the round-robin format of the tournament, followed by Tanzania and then Uganda.

Matchday two will be played on Wednesday with another round of three matches at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
