Weatherhead Gazelles came from behind to beat Kampala Hockey Club Swans 2-1 on Sunday in the Uganda Baati Hockey League.
The Gazelles had not beaten KHC this season having lost 1-0 in the second round and having lost points in form of a walkover for fielding an ineligible player against the same opponent in the first round.
Deservedly so, the Swans took an early lead through Jane Nambi, but Weatherhead were in no mood to donate points. While the second quarter ended with nothing to highlight, the Gazelles came back guns blazing in the third round.
Creative midfielder Siddy Alum found an equalizer in 34th minute before player-coach Pauline Kirukundo scored the winner in the 45th minute.
Weatherhead started the game in placed third on the table standings but victory elevates them to the second place dislodging KHC.
In other results in the women’s division, Wananchi maintained their fine form, beating Deliverance Church Uganda 5-0.
The record league winners who are also the defending champions lead the table with 31 points. That’s 13 more than second-placed Weatherhead.
