Abei Priscilla scored with three seconds on the clock as UCU Lady Canons beat defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins in game one of their FUBA National Basketball League on Wednesday.
With the game tied at 69-69, Priscilla picked up an offensive rebound after Zainah Lukwameri had failed with her hook shot, executed a layup and with JKL out of time-outs, succumbed to defeat in a well-contested game.
The two points were part of only 7 that Priscilla managed in the whole contest despite playing 20 minutes.
Earlier, UCU had taken the first quarter 17-13 despite conceding the first points on the night.
The second would them belong to JKL who managed 25 points, five more than UCU and ensure the defending champions led 38-37 at half time.
In the third quarter, UCU came out better, taking it 22-19 to lead by two (59-57) going into the fourth.
UCU led for most of the fourth until Ritah Imanishimwe threw-down two free-throws to level the contest at 69-69 inside the final minute.
It was then left for Priscilla to win it for UCU who lost 4-0 to JKL in last year’s final.
Rose Akon was once again vital for UCU as she managed another post-season double double. Akon scored a game-high 22 points and collected 17 boards in the winning effort.
Lokwameri was the other Lady Canon who managed double figures in terms of scoring on the night as she scored 11 points.
For the Lady Dolphins, they had five players in double figures with substitute Stella Oyella top-scoring with 14 points, Flavia Oketcho 12, Ritah Imanishimwe 10, Hope Okello 10 and Mayimunah Namuwaya 10.
Game two of the Ladies final will be played at the MTN Arena on Friday.
