Vipers SC maintained top spot in the Uganda Premier League thanks to a 2-1 victory away to Kyetume FC on Tuesday.

The Venoms came into the game holding a two-point advantage at the top of the log and wasted no time as they took an early 2-0 lead.

Fahad Bayo scored Vipers’ first goal inside three minutes, heading in a Bashir Asiku cross. This was his 7th goal of the campaign and 9th since joining Vipers in the summer.

Moments later, Dan Sserunkuma converted from the spot after Benson Tahomera brought Bayo down in the area.

The home side pulled a goal back in the second half through Robert Ssentongo who benefited from a Halid Lwaliwa slip.

However, despite late pressure from the hosts, Vipers held on to register a 7th victory of the season and maintained their unbeaten start to the season.

The result means Vipers now move to 24 points having drawn the other 3 of their 10 games of the season.

For Kyetume, they remain 7th on the log having gathered 13 points.

In the game played at Nejru, second-placed BUL FC were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Bright Stars.

After a goalless first half, James Otim put the hosts ahead on 53 minutes but Joseph Janjali levelled matter with 11 minutes to play.

The draw means BUL remains second on the log and they now have 20 points from 10 games.

For Bright Stars, they are still winless and sit third from bottom with 6 points after drawing 6 of their first 10 games.
