Mbarara City captain Hilary Mukundane scored a late equalizer as the Ankole Lions held Vipers SC to a 2-2 draw at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on Saturday afternoon.

The defender connected neatly with a Brian Ahebwa header, levelling the scores with only seven minutes to play.

The point earned means that Mbarara City have now taken five (points) from a possible 15 this season but have gone four games minus victory.

Their only victory came in the 3-0 opening day victory over Proline FC.

The returning Edward Golola handed Rashid Toha a debut as part of five changes made to the team that defeated Tooro United 1-0 on match-day two.

Just like in the first two games of this campaign, the Venoms started slowly, finding it difficult to curb open a well organized Mbarara City defence.

Mbarara could have compounded Vipers’ early frustration only for Ibrahim Orit to strike the upright inside 9 minutes.

However, the winger would not be denied twice as he handed the visitors the lead on 27 minutes after connecting with a Jasper Ahebwa well-weighted pass.

With Vipers struggling to create chances, Golola introduced both Dan Sserunkuma and Abraham Ndugwa early in the second half, a move that paid dividends.

On 65 minutes, Fahad Bayo who scored in the win against Tooro levelled matters and it was just a matter of time before a second goal for the home side went in.

It eventually came on 80 minutes and it was once again Bayo at the end of an Allan Kayiwa cross.

However, Mbarara had other ideas and equalized three minutes later through Mukundane to ensure the two sides share spoils.

The draw ends Vipers five game winning run in the league and now move to 7 points from three games this season.

The Venoms had earlier beaten Bright Stars 3-1 and Tooro United 1-0.

The Venoms’ next assignment sees them travel away to SC Villa while Mbarara will host Busoga United in their next game.
