La Liga defending Champions Barcelona were subjected to a second loss of the season this past weekend as they lost 2-0 away to Granada.
A goal in either half by Ramon Azeez and Vadillo was enough for the newly promoted side to overcome Barca despite Lionel Messi coming off the bench at the start of the second half.
The loss sees Ernesto Valverde’s side slump into 8th on the log with just 7 points from their first five games while Grananda are now 3rd with 10 points having won three, drawn one and lost the other of their games so far.
In the biggest fixture of the weekend, Real Madrid beat Sevilla 1-0 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday night.
Karim Benzema scored the only goal of the day in the 64th minute to ensure Real register their third victory of the season and as a consequence, climb into second on the standings.
Sevilla who started game week five on the top, drop into 5th with 10 points.
In the Spanish capital, Atletico Madrdi were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw at home to Celta Vigo.
Elsewhere, Villarreal defeated Real Valladolid 2-0, Getafe were 4-2 winners at home to Mallorca, Sociedad overpowered Espanyol 3-1 while Bilbao beat Alaves 2-0.
Three of the other four games ended 0-0 while the one between Valencia and Leganes finished 1-1 at the Mestalla.
In Italy, Juventus returned to winning ways thanks to a 2-1 win at home to Hellas Verona on Saturday.
Having drawn 0-0 with Fiorentina the previous week, the Old Lady had to some from a goal down so as to take all three points. Miguel Veloso opened the scoring for Verona on 20 minutes but Aaron Ramsey equalized 11 minutes later. Four minutes into the second half, Cristiano Ronaldo put away a penalty to win the game for Maurizzio Sarri’s men.
Despite the victory, Juve are still second on the log with 10 points from our games and trail leaders Inter by two (points).
For Inter, they were 2-0 winners away to cross-city rivals Milan in the Milan derby.
After a goalless first half, Marcelo Brozovic put the visitors ahead via a deflected group. Summer signing Romelu Lukaku sealed the victory with a header 12 minutes from time.
Victory for Inter means they maintain their 100% start to the season and now have 12 points from their first four games. For Milan, they have now lost two games and won as many and now sit 12th on the log.
On Sunday, Napoli thumped Lecce 4-1 thanks to a brace by Fernando LIorente and a goal each from Lorenzo Insigne and Fabian Ruiz.
Napoli who have so far only lost to Juventus maintain 3rd spot with 9 points while Lecce are now 18th.
On the same day, both Rome clubs also won their respective fixtures. Roma required a 90th minute Edin Dzeko strike to take care of Bologna 2-1 away from home while Lazio defeated Parma 2-0 thanks to goals by Ciro Immobile and Adam Marui.
Elsewhere, Cagliari were 3-1 winners at home to Genoa, Brescia stunned Udinese 1-0, Sassuolo defeated SPAL 3-0, Sampdoria beat Torino 1-0 while Atlanta and Fiorentina drew 2-2.
In France, Neymar continued his majestic return, scoring the winning goal as PSG defeated Lyon 1-0 on Sunday night.
This was the Brazilian’s second goal in as many games after also netting the winner the previous weekend in the victory over Strasbourg.
The Parisians’ now hold a three point advantage at the top of the standings having won five of their first six matches whilst losing the other.
In Marseille, 9-man Olympic Marseille were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Montpellier on Saturday afternoon.
Bouna Sarr put the visitors ahead on 17 minutes before Valera Germain equalized in the second half. Marseille saw both Boubacar Kamara and Dimitri Payet sent off while a similar fate befell Montpellier’s Jordan Ferri.
Elsewhere, Strasbourg defeated Nantes 2-1, Amiens were 2-1 winners at Metz, Nimes beat Toulouse 1-0, Angers took care of Saint-Etienne 4-1 while Nice powered to a 2-1 victory at home to Dijon.
The other two fixtures all ended in stalemates.
In Germany, both Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig also returned to winning ways with 4-0 and 3-0 victories against Koln and Bremen respectively.
A brace by Robert Lewandowski and a goal each by Ivan Perisic and Philip Coutinho saw Bayern register their third victory of the season and climb back into second on the standings.
For Leipzig who are still top, it was Willy Orban, Marcel Sabitzer and Josemir Saracchi who banged in the goals. Leipzig now have 13 points from five games.
On Sunday, third placed Borussia Dortmund conceded a late Tomas Delaney own-goal as they were held to a 2-2 draw away to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Initially, Axel Witsel and Jardon Sancho had scored either side of an Andre Silva strike to hand the Black and Yellows a 2-1 caution.
The draw means Lucein Favre’s side now have 10 points from five games while Frankfurt who are now 9th, have collected 7 points so far.
Elsewhere, Schalke 04 continued their revival with a third successive victory as they dispatched Mainz 2-1, Leverkusen beat Union Berlin 2-0, Hertha were 2-1 victors at home to Paderborn while Monchengladbach beat Dusseldorf 2-1.
