Uganda 12-0 Botswana

St. Francois Xavier Stadium, Mauritius

Friday, 29-09-2019

The Uganda Women’s U17 national team continued their exceptional goal scoring form as they thumped Botswana 12-0 to reach the finals of the COSAFA U17 championship.

In the semi-final game played at St. Francois Xavier stadium, it was a three-star performance with Margret Kunihira, Juliet Nalukenge and Fauzia Najjemba scoring the goals.

Kunihira who opened the scoring grabbed three in the 4th, 24th and 60th minute while Najjemba-voted woman of the match-helped herself to six as she found the back of the net in the 35th, 45th, 47th, 67th and 86th minute.

Captain and tournament top scorer Juliet Nalukenge managed three to take her tally to 17. She has now scored in all four of Uganda’s matches at the championship so far.

Speaking after the game, Uganda’s head coach Ayub Khalifa could not hide his satisfaction towards the result.

“It was a good game, we had a convincing win scoring 12 goals, noted Khalifa after the game.

“Our initial target was to win the game and we had worked so hard on how to try and make them concede in the first 10 minutes.

“Good, we scored early and after that, we concentrated and started playing good football.”

Uganda now awaits the winner between South Africa and Zambia in the other semi-final.
