KCCA FC vs Wakiso Giants

StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo

Saturday, 31-08-2019 @3pm

KCCA FC will be hoping to get their latest Uganda Premier league title defence off to a perfect start when they take on Wakiso Giants at Lugogo on Saturday afternoon.

Mike Mutebi’s side enter into the new campaign as favourites to retain the title the won convincingly last season and anything short of three points on opening Match-Day wil be entertained.

The Kasasiros have had a near to perfect preseason as they have gone on to win both the CECAFA Kagame Cup and Super Cup.

They could have won three titles but lost the final of the Super 8 to Vipers SC last Sunday.

For Wakiso, they attained promotion to the top tier three months ago and will be featuring in their first-ever Uganda Premier League.

Kefa Kisala’s side took part in the Pilsner Super 8 where they finished 6th following two losses and a single victory in their three games.

After making a host of signings, Saturday’s game will give Wakiso a proper picture of what to expect in the coming season.

What the managers are saying

Mike Mutebi, KCCA FC

“They (Wakiso) will be one of this season’s teams to watch, they have good players but I think we have enough in our armoury to stop them.

“We have had enough preparation; we have had many games and am sure they have sharpened my boys more.

They know their responsibility and what is at stake.”

Kefa Kisala, Wakiso Giants

“It will be a tough game against a very good team.

“But we have prepared well and I am confident the boys will give a very good account of themselves.

Team news

KCCA FC will miss striker Sadat Anaku who got injured in the Super Cup victory over Proline on Wednesday. Midfielders Saddam Juma and Julius Poloto remain out with long-term injuries.

Emma Mutebi didn’t train with the side on Thursday and remains a doubt for the game. Ayub Kisaliita and Muwadda Mawejje are all back and available for selection but defensive midfielder Ivan Ssebuguzi could be out. Lawrance Bukenya who is on loan from KCCA FC will be ineligible to feature.

Match Facts

This will be the third meeting between the two sides.

The first one came in a preseason friendly last year, ending 1-1 while the other saw KCCA FC defeat Wakiso 2-0 in the Pilsner Super 8.

The other UPL fixtures on Saturday @4pm
