Algeria 3-0 Guinea

30 June Air Defence Stadium, Cairo

Sunday, 07-07-2019

Algeria secured a place into the last eight with a comfortable 3-0 win over Guinea at the 30 June Stadium on Sunday

Youcef Belaili, Riyad Mahrez and Adam Ounas all were on the score sheet for the Desert foxes.

The 1990 Africa Cup of Nations have now scored nine goals and are yet to concede in this year’s edition.

Baghdad Bounedjah had a great chance to give Djamel Belmadi’s side the lead in the 20th minute but his effort went over the bar.

Four minutes later, the Algerians were in dreamland when Esperance forward Youcef Belaili broke the deadlock with a sensational finish.

In the 57th minute, Mahrez expertly eased away from Issiaga Sylla to double his side’s advantage. This was also his second goal of the tournament.

Substitute Ounas put the cherry on the icing of the cake scoring his third goal of the competition from 12 yards after Youcef Atal quality low cross from the right.

The Algerians will face either Ivory Coast or Mali on Thursday July 11th in the quarterfinals.

Algeria have won their last four games in the Africa Cup of Nations. They have done better only once in the event, during the 1990 edition when they won five in a row.

Guinea have now lost five of their knockout stages games in the competition without keeping a clean sheet.

The other game on Sunday

-Madagascar 2(4) – 2(2) DR Congo

Monday’s fixtures

-Mali vs Ivory Coast @7pm

-Ghana vs Tunisia @10pm
