Guinea will now turn to prayers for their 2019 AFCON round of 16 hopes after doing their part, defeating Burundi 2-0 on Sunday.

A brace by Muhamed Yattara was enough to ensure Guinea finish third in Group B with four points from three games.

The AJ Auxerre striker swept in the first of his goals from the corner to hand the west Africans a deserved lead.

Moments after, Christophe Nduwarugira was sent off for committing a foul as the last man.

Yattara made the win safe in the second half with a composed strike, having Ibrahima Traore’s assist.

Despite the win, Guinea must now wait to discover if they will progress as one of the best third-placed teams.

For Burundi, they will go back home with their heads held high after a maiden appearance at the continental show piece.

The Swallow, despite losing all their group games, were solid all the way, conceding four goals in the process.

They finish the group stage with four points. The four third-placed sides with the best records at AFCON 2019 will go through to the round of 16.

In the other Group B game played on the same day, Madagascar upset the odds and beat Nigeria 2-0.

The result means that Madagascar top the group with seven points, while the Super Eagles finish second, a point adrift.
