Benin vs Guinea-Bissau

Ismailia Stadium, Ismailia

Saturday, 29-06-2019 @11pm

Ismailia Stadium will this evening be the battleground when Guinea Bissau aim to resurrect their hopes of progression against a tricky Benin side in a Group F contest.

Guinea fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the reigning champions Cameroon and will only need to fight for victory against the squirrels.

Benin on the other hand shocked Ghana in an exciting 2-2 draw and will hope to build on the success for maximum points in their second group game.

Benin are ranked 88th and this is their third appearance in the competition whereas Guinea are 118th in the world, this is only their second time in the tournament.

There’s just one previous meeting between these two sides, back in 2001 and Benin lost the encounter.

The squirrels will welcome back their skipper and former English Premier League midfielder Stephane Sesssegnon who missed the Ghana game through suspension.

He only needs one goal to overtake Razak Omotoyossi and become the all-time goalscorer for his nation.

Mickael Pote who bagged a brace against Ghana is also another threat for Guinea Bissau.

The Djurtus are to look up skipper Zezinho Djafal alongside Joao Jaquite and Monaco’s Judilson Mamadu Tuncara.

During their debut appearance in Gabon 2017, Guinea could not make it past the group stages, Benin on other hand have never won a match at the Cup of Nations after two draws and eight losses since their debut 15 years ago.

Saturday’s other fixtures

-Mauritania vs Angola @5:30pm

-Cameroon vs Ghana @8pm

Friday’s results

-Tunisia 1-1 Mali

-Morocco 1-0 Ivory Coast

-South Africa 1-0 Namibia
