Kigali, Wanda

KIGALI – The Uganda Gallezes U16 national team got off to a brilliant start at the on-going FIBA Africa U16 Championships in Rwanda.

The Junior Gazelles were on hand to defeat Tanzania 58-39 in Kigali.

Shilla Lamunu led the way in terms of scoring, posting a game-high 19 points on the day.

It was in the third that Roger Sserunyigo’s side took the initiative as they won the quarter 16-2.

In the end, the Gazelles won the game 58-39.

Mariam Najjuma (12 points, 24 rebounds), Regina Ajuma (14 points, 21 rebounds) notched double-doubles for team Uganda.

This is Uganda’s first victory in the competition while Tanzania have now won one and lost the other of their first two games.

In their opening game, Tanzania defeated hosts-Rwanda 74-63.

The Gazelles return to action on Tuesday against Rwanda while Uganda’s other team, the Silverbacks take on Rwanda in their first game.
