The Confederation of African football (CAF) has announced that the 2019 Champions League final between Esperance and Wydad Casablanca, will be replayed on a neutral venue.

The proceedings were confirmed by African Football expert, Gary Alsmith on his official handle on Wednesday evening.

CAF CL final to be replayed in South Africa.

Esperance to go CAS to contest it.

Match commissioner did not include the fact that WAC walked off the pitch in his report.

Decision comes after almost 6 hour meeting in Paris.

After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, the second (leg) between the two sides was marred by controversy, as a technical error meant that VAR was not used although this was not told to the management of either side.

Esperance secured their second successive title in controversial circumstances last Friday after Wydad refused to continue playing with the aggregate scoreline at 2-1 in favour of Esperance, due the VAR being unavailable to judge a disallowed equaliser.

After an hour of uncertainty and waiting, the referee blew the full-time whistle to hand the Tunisians a fourth title overall.

CAF president Ahmad Ahmad has since come out and suggested that Wydad got the short end of the stick.

“If somebody did not see WAC’s goal as legitimate, he then should change his hobby and to stop watching football,” Ahmad told a Moroccan sports news outlet.

“The goal was legitimate and the Video Assistant Referee is not necessary to prove that.

Ahmad claims Wydad’s goal was legitimate.

Ahmad also provided some clarity regarding the lack of VAR in the second leg.

“Everything has been unfair towards Wydad.

“We have had an agreement with a company to supply VAR; however, they informed us they wouldn’t be apply to provide it for technical reasons just before the game.

“I have no answers to give you. I am even so frightened after what happened.

It has also been confirmed that the final will take place in South Africa, following the African Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The stadium in which it will be contested is however, not yet been confirmed.
