KITENDE – Kajjansi United took a giant step towards securing promotion to the FUFA Big League as they defeated Katwe United 2-1 on Tuesday.

In the Regional playoff game played at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende, Douglas Oree scored a brace for Kajjansi while Alex Katumba netted Katwe’s only goal on the day.

With half time beckoning, Muhammed Kabuye played in Oree and the forward slotted into the net for the opener.

Twenty minutes into the second half, Katumba leveled matters for Katwe and handed them what may yet prove to be a vital away goal.

With the game headed for a stalemate, Oree struck gain on 88 minutes and in the process, handed Kajjansi vital three points to take into the second leg.

The return leg will be played at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo on Thursday, June 20th, 2019.

Kajjansi need only to avoid defeat so as to ensure promotion to the top tier.

The Potters can also seal promotion if they lose by a difference of one goal whilst scoring two or more of their own.

For Katwe, a 1-0 victory on Thursday will see them reach the Big League for the first time in the club’s history.

Similarly, a win of two or more goals will see Allan Ssewanyan’s side reach the second tier of Ugandan football.

If the game at Lugogo ends 2-1 in favour of Katwe, kicks from the penalty mark will be used to determine who gets promoted to the second tier.
