Vipers bow out of Champions League

KITENDE – Vipers were eliminated from the CAF Champions League by CS Constantine of Algeria, falling at home 2-0 on Saturday and subsequently losing 3-0 on Aggregate.

Going into the game having lost 1-0 in Constantine, Vipers looked out of sorts and struggled to create chances for the biggest period of the game.

Adil Djabout opened the scoring in the 67th minute while Mohamed Walid Bencherifa made it two in the 73th minute to give the visitors a deserved win.

“Am proud of my players, we had many opportunities but we didn’t score, said Vipers Coach Javier Martinez.

“The opponents had a good game and  we have learnt from them. ” he added.

The visitors head coach said his team was better than Vipers in both legs.

“I had the better team than Vipers both home and away, my boys displayed good football, the Constantine coach Denis Lavan said.

He also added that he’s boys were stressed and nervous during the first half but he told them to calm down and concentrate.

“My boys were nervous and stressed in the first half but at break time I told them to be positive they will score, and they did, Lavana added.

The loss means that the Ugandan champions drop to the Caf Confederations Cup for another two legged tie in the Confederations Cup after which they can earn a position in the group stages of Africa’s second club competition.

Vipers next play Rusekere Growers in the Stanbic Uganda cup on Boxing day at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende.
