LUGOGO – The She Cranes, who are set to compete with England in friendly series, were on Thursday flagged off to the United Kingdom.
The event was graced by the State Minister for Sports, Hon Charles Bakabulinde who promised that the Government will continue supporting the She Cranes.
“As government, we are proud of you and we will continue supporting the team and sports in Uganda, said Bakabulinde.
“We wish you the best out there and even though it is just a friendly, try to take it serious and make sure that you win.
He also urged the team to remain focused as the journey for the 2019 World Cup has already started.
“I am sure you all know that the road to the World Cup has already started so i hope u all remain focused throughout, continued the State Minister for Sports
The She Cranes goes overseas on invitation to compete in the Vitality Netball International Series scheduled to take place between November 23 to December 2 in United Kingdom.
The side will use the series as preparations for the 2019 Netball World Cup.
For England Roses, this will be their first game to play on home soil since winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.
England, ranked number two, will face Uganda in a three-match series.
The Echo Arena in Liverpool (home of the Netball World Cup 2019), will host the first match of the series.
The team of 15 players and about nine officials will depart from Entebbe International Airport on Thursday evening.
However, team captain Peace Proscovia who just signed with new club Sunshine Coast Lightning in Australia, will join the team in England.
Beside England, it was also revealed that Uganda will play with other nations like Scotland during the friendlies’ campaign.
