KCCA ended JKL Lady Dolphin’s winning start to the NBL on Friday evening with a 60-57 overtime win.
JKL who had won their first eight games came into the game confident they can increase their unbeaten run but that could not be as KCCA put up a spirited display to force overtime and eventually inning the game.
The game started on a low note, as both sides looked blunt and It took four minutes for the first basket courtesy of Hilda Naigaga to put KCCA 2-0.
JKL came back into the tie with a force, before edging the first quarter 9-5.
KCCA won the second 10-9 before the third ended all square at 12-12.
With KCCA trailing by just three points going into the last quarter, the Ali Mavita coached side put up a stellar performance to score 20 points to lead 47-43 with 47 seconds on the clock.
Hope Akello laid up to reduce the deficit to two points, and with just seven seconds remaining, KCCA’s Judith Ayo Nansobya fouled Ritah Imanishimwe (former UCU teammates) for the later to convert both of her free throws to send the game 47-47 to overtime.
In overtime, Ayo made amends: she scored from downtown, converted all her four free throws as KCCA edged the five minutes 13-10 to win a hard fought game 60-57.
The defeat ends JKL’s unbeaten run in the season as the side had won all their eight league engagements.
Martha Soigi led with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Cynthia Irakunda collected 15 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists before Judith Ayo Nansobya scored 12 points in the victory.
JKL’s Jamila Nansikombi scored a game high 18 points, Muhayimuna Namuwaya and Rita Immanishimwe added 10 points each, the later had a bad day in office as she shot 3-25 on the field.
Unlike KCCA Leopards who will return to court on July 22 against Magic Stomers, JKL Ladies have no time to rest as they will play Javon Ladies on Saturday at KIU courts in Kansanga.
