Azam Uganda Premier League log leaders Vipers will be aiming to stretch their lead when they host Police FC on Friday afternoon.
The Venoms came from behind to defeat Proline 3-1 at Lugogo on Tuesday hence maintaining their two point advantage on second placed SC Villa.
With Villa away to UPDF on Saturday, Vipers know that victory over Abdallah Mubiru’s Police FC will see them hold a healthy five point advantage for at least 24 hours.
“Despite all the problems at the club, Police FC remains a very good side,” said Vipers assistant coach Edward Golola ahead of the game.
“But we have to put out a statement going into the final bend and also maintain our momentum.
Vipers’s left back Dan Birikwalira picked an injury in the last training thus ruled out of this tie so Yayo Lutimba is expected to start. Frank Tumwesigye and Ashraf Mugume did not make the match day squad as well.
James Alitho will serve his final match due to suspension and will only return against Kirinya Jinja but captain Nicholas Wadada,Milton Karisa and Brian Nkuubi all return from suspension having missed the 1-3 victory over Proline.
For Police FC, they will miss the services of left back Aggrey Madoi who can’t face his parent side as well as long term absentee Basani Saafi.
The Cops won their first game in the last four, 1-0 against Soana on Tuesday and will hope that the result can spur them onto a healthy run.
“Sadly, we are not where we would have wanted to be at this time in the season, said Police coach Abdallah Mubiru.
“But that’s no excuse, the boys go into each game determined for a result and it won’t be different come Friday.
“We are team that loves to compete and i am confident we will give a good account of ourselves.
