Bright Stars 1-2 KCCA
Champions Stadium, Mwerere
Saturday, 19-05-2018.

KCCA FC maintained their quest for a third successive league crown as they defeated a spirited Bright Stars’ side 2-1 in Mwerere.

The two time defending champions tool the lead in 34 minutes before John Opejo levelled the game with under 15 minutes to play.

Paul Mucureezi ensured all three points for the Kasasiro Boys with a late stunning free kick.

The uneventful first 45 only saw Jimmy Kakooza cautioned for the host before Nsibambi who had gone over six matches without scoring, put the visitors into the last with 11 minutes to the interval.

KCCA dominated much of the spells with Saddam Juma, Jackson Nunda and Isaac Kirabira running the show in the middle.

With all eyes on league top scorer Nelson Ssenkayuka to save his side, it’s was the less fancied substitute John Kokas Opejo who scored the equalizer after dancing through at least four KCCA defenders.

As the game was destined for a stalemate, Paul Mucureezi who has had limited playing time all season was fouled around the Bright Stars penalty area. The winger picked him self up and curled a free kick into the top corner for the winning goal with six minutes to play.

A late surge by the home side could not yield an equalizer as KCCA saw out the rest of the game to clinch vital three points in the title race.

The victory means that Mike Mutebi’s charges move to within two points of leaders Vipers with both teams having two games to play before the season ends.

KCCA now have 57 points while Vipers who play Express on Tuesday remain with 59 after 28 rounds of the current UPL season.

The defeat leaves Bright stars In the sixth on the log with 38 points from 29games.

KCCA FC will host BUL on Tuesday at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo while log leaders Vipers take on Express as the latter tries to survive relegation.
