The Uganda Tennis Association(UTI) has launched the Uganda Pro Circuit Tennis event that is slated to take place from the 27th of April and thought May at the Lugogo Tennis club in Kampala.
This was during a press briefing at the Lugogo Tennis club where the association availed that they will be hosting four professional tennis events.
“We are happy to let the general public know that we will be hosting the biggest Tennis event ever been held in East Africa, said UTA chairman Cedric Babu.
“We are expecting over 200 players for the event including some of the best upcoming tennis players from all over the world.
“This event will help to showcase some of Uganda’s finest tennis players and the best thing in it all, is that it will be broadcast locally and live streamed to the world via Twitter.
“The goods in it do not stop at just that, it also has a great economic and social implication as Jobs will be created and the spending is expected to be around $10,000 which intern will bring Uganda’s economy around $1 during the time of the event.
This all comes at a time when Uganda has just been re-admitted to the International Tennis Federation(ITF) family in January after a seven year hiatus.
The matches will run from 9am to 5pm daily for 30 days. Each person will have to part with 5,000 shillings dailly to access the venues and 10,000 for the finals.
Each week will host a tournament with qualifying to the main draw Friday through to Sunday and the main draw for singles starting Monday while that for doubles start Tuesday.
The event has seen several sponsors come on board including the ITF, Grand Slam Development, National Council of Sports, Uganda Tourism Board, KCCA, Stanbic Bank Uganda, Shax Extra, JIBU Water, Tusker Lite, National Information Technology Authority and the Uganda Olympic Committe.
The UTA also announced that the Ladies National team that is taking part in the 2018 Fed Cup Europe/Africa zone III by BNP Paribas in Montenegro, will be flagged off on Saturday the 14th of April.
