Unanswered questions as missing groom is found
Kira Road Division police have found Phillip Tumwebaze Wabwire, the groom who went missing two weeks to his wedding.
However, Wabwire’s discovery on Saturday has raised more questions than answers, with some friends and family members suspecting that his disappearance was planned and not a kidnap.
According to police, Wabwire, who went missing on February 16, was tracked through one of his close friends and found at another friend’s home.
His mother, Ms Juliet Nabwire, said he went missing on a day he was supposed to chair his wedding meeting late in the evening. He is set to wed his fiancé Mercy Twinomujuni on March 3.
Ms Nabwire said just before the meeting, he left the house to buy airtime but never returned. She added that an hour later, they realized he had not returned, prompting them to report to police and a search started.
Ms Nabwire adds that on Saturday morning, the bride to-be, Mercy Twinomujuni, received a call from an anonymous caller, who told her not to worry as the wedding preparations were still on.
And now one of his acquaintances, who refused to be named for fear of reprisal, said Wabwire may have disappeared so as to dodge the wedding.
Wabwire’s family declined to comment on the claim.
Ms Peace Nansaba, the Kira Road Division DPC, said investigations are ongoing to ascertain reasons that led to his disappearance.
According to family members, wedding preparations are to resume immediately.
Wabwire is a bio-informatics professional and Yellow fever researcher.
Woman arrested over hacking own husband to death
Police in Mukono District have arrested a 25-year-old woman after investigations revealed that a case of aggravated robbery that left her husband dead was a cover up.
Jackline Nakku is detained at Mukono Police Station on allegations of hitting Eric Senyonjo Kiddu, 33, dead with an iron bar.
Nakku had reported a case of aggravated robbery in which her husband was hit by thugs on the head with an iron bar after returning back from watching PSG vs Real Madrid football match.
She told police that the thugs had gained access into the house and committed the crime.
Scene-of-crime officers visited the crime scene but could not find any signs showing break-in and reconstruction of the scene didn’t add up.
Detectives searched the house and found an iron bar covered with blood hidden below her mattress.
The maid and children of the deceased were interrogated and all leads pointed at Nakku. They said they had not heard any struggle during the attack. A background search revealed that the couple’s marriage has been staggering and several cases reported to police and probation officers.
Detectives tasked her to explain how the iron bar ended up in her mattress, she gave in and admitted that she hit the husband with an iron bar because of numerous fights and domestic disagreements.
DPC. Mukono Division SP. Seguya Rogers confirmed the arrest and revealed that the murder case file has been opened CRB 210/2018.
Teacher held over defilement
Police have arrested a primary school head teacher for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old under his care.
Hamisi Mukalazi, 37, the owner of Star Primary School in Goma Division, Bukerere, Mukono District, is said to have taken the victim from her relatives in guise of educating her.
The victim said the caretaker started seducing her and sexually exploiting her since 2017.
She said he would do it whenever his wife was away and whenever she complained, the caretaker would threaten to stop the funding.
The victim then became pregnant. It is alleged that Hamisi attempted to force her abort by administering tablets, which caused health problems.
Afraid of what his wife figuring out, he took the victim back to her grandmother, who discovered the health problem and involved medics and police. A case file CRB 221/2018 was opened.
Unfortunately, the police surgeon examination revealed that the victim’s womb had been damaged.
An operation was done and uterus removed.
Hamisi faces charges.

Two held over rape, robbery
Police in Mukono have arrested two men suspected of gang rape and robbery in Nabuti, Mukono District, last month.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire identified the two suspects as Emmanuel Nuwamanya and Taremwa, residents of Nankulabye and Kasubi, respectively.
The rape case took place on the night of January 23, 2018, at around 03:32am.
“They broke into home, robbed property including TV, laptop, Shs1.5m and took turns to rape the woman,” Mr Owoyesigyire said.
Police are also investigating another rape case in which Nuwamanya admitted to have raped a woman and her two female children in November 2017.
The suspects are to appear in Mukono Magistrate’s Court next week.
In related incidents, police have carried out operations in Mukono Division leading to an arrest of one Robert Musinguzi on suspicion of raping three female church goers at a swamp near Victory Church.
The same operations have led to the arrest of Mustafa Matovu, 43, Moses Tamuzzade, 37, who allegedly defiled a young girl on February 11 in Seeta, Mukono District, and are detained at Seeta Police Station.
The trio are being held on rape and aggravated defilement charges, pending court next week.
