The Uganda Men’s basketball team The Silver Backs, will kick start their Afro Basket campaign Friday September 8, with a debt against 11-time record African champions Angola at the Stade de Marus Ndiaye in Dakar, Senegal.

The fixture released yesterday evening also indicates that the Silver Backs who will play all their group games at the same stadium will then take on two-time champions Central African Republic(CAR) the following day before completing the preliminary round against 1965 winners Morocco on Sunday 10th.

The team who are currently in Cairo, Egypt for a training camp have already seen Stanley Ociti, A’Darius Pegues, Sam Kalwanyi and debutant Robinson Odoch, the four players from abroad, join up with them along with certified FIBA coaches’ instructor Omar Barajab and Dallas Mavericks D team coach George Galanoplis.

This is the second time Uganda is being represented at the African show piece following representation in the last edition in Tunisia 2015 where we where 15th out of the 16 teams that participated having lost all our group A games against eventual champions Nigeria, hosts Tunisia and CAR.

Players in camp.

Stephen Omony, Joseph Ikong, Jimmy Enabu, Ben Komakech, James Okello, Jonathan Egau, Jonah Otim, Cyrus Kiviri, Stanley Ociti, A’Darius Pegues, Sam Kalwanyi and Robinson Odoch.

Coaching staff.
