KAMPALA – Ambassador Dickson Ogwang, a husband to Foreign Service Officer, Miriam Otengo has filed for divorce, accusing his wife of heinous behaviors including extramarital affairs with strangers, partying and pornography which has irretrievably shuttered their marriage.

The couple has two children together, Esther Randi Ogwang, eight, and Solomon Mukombozi Ogwang, seven.

He has listed 17 reasons-backing up his divorce suit including naming a Kenyan man who has allegedly gotten the better of his wife during the course of their civil marriage.

In the divorce suit filed in the Chief Magistrate High Court of Mengo, on December 9, Ambassador Ogwang has accused his wife of adultery which is the easiest route to divorce under the Ugandan law.

Ogwang contends Ms. Otengo at one point also abdicated her responsibility as a mother and a wife by abandoning her two children who were both under the age of two years old and returned to Uganda from the United States where the husband was an Ambassador.

Ogwang is represented by Newmark Advocates.

In course of their marriage, Ambassador Ogwang alleges that his wife embarked on acts of inconsistent married woman, including marathons of extramarital affairs with a Kenyan national “she only called Onayngo”.

Ogwang contends that he has been a witness to some of the extra-marital affairs and despite confronting his wife on the issues, Otengo has not been repentant or shown herself willing to desist from the ridiculous and demeaning behavior.

“…due to the cruelty, assaults, slanders, defamation, abusive phone message and calls from the respondents (Otengo) the marriage of your petitioner (Ogwang) has irretrievably broken down,” Ogwang states in the suit documents.

According to particulars of the divorce suit, Ogwang and Otengo totally separated in February 2018, due constant harshness, cruelty and have since to date lived separate lives without any form of association whatsoever and that there remains no hope whatsoever to live together again as husbands and wife.

“She almost smashed the petitioner’s head with a bottle at Bukoto, tried doing the same while in Washington by throwing a heavy sound speaker aimed at the petitioner’s head, a surprise heavy slap on the respondent while he was asleep and waking up to tormenting quarrels,”  Ogwang contends.

Efforts to get a comment from Otengo were futile as her known mobile telephone number was not available by press time.

She is expected to file her defense against the suit within 15 days from receipt of court summons. We have, however, not established whether she has received the summons or not.

The filing comes few months after Otengo accused Ambassador Ogwang of battering her to the pulp in the United States and subsequently resulted in his recall to Uganda in 2018.

In September she robustly took to the social media accusing Ogwang of continuing to torment her and now “targeting” her career in diplomacy, an accusation, Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has totally denounced.

It was later understood that Ms. Otengo applied for a UK visa in September 2019 but the British High Commission in Kampala denied her the travel document over the fathers of the five children she wanted to take to London.

Foreign Affairs sources said the five children included the two she produced with Ogwang while in the US, one in her earlier relationship and two from her sisters.
The dilemma reportedly emerged when Otengo failed to ascertain and produce consent from the fathers of the children.

This was Otengo’s second marriage. She was previously married to another man where she produced one child.

Ogwang has had a troubling spell in the wake of his recall to Uganda in 2018, while his estranged wife was amusingly given a Foreign Service job and posted to London as the former husband grasses in Kampala.
