KAMPALA —A 10 tire trailer plowed into stopped traffic along Naalya-Kiwatule Rd, igniting a fiery crash that included nine cars and two motorcycles.

Police said the accident happened at 8:20am on Thursday Morning in Kiwatule, a township within capital Kampala.

A police officer at the scene said a Sino truck registration number UAX 495M failed to brake at the Kiwatule road junction before ramming into vehicles and that were stuck in the early Thursday morning traffic jam.

Police says there’s no confirmed deaths (PHOTO/Courtesy).

The truck was loaded with aggregate stones and according to a live broadcast by NBS Television, there’s serious wreckage.

Multiple people were injured in the incident but Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Oweyisigyire said there’s no fatalities.

“There are no confirmed deaths but the injured have been rushed to various hospitals,” he said in a WhatsApp message.

Officials were still trying to determine the total number of people injured and extent of any injuries, Oweyisigyire added.

Patients were transported to various hospitals including Mulango Hospital for treatment.

Poor mechanical condition of the trailer is believed to be a factor in the crash, but the investigations are continuing, officials said.

Police say investigations into the matter are still ongoing and details will be communicated later. (PHOTO/Courtesy).

A video circulating on social media showed injured strewn on the roadway while several people cried and shouted for help.

Police quickly arrived at the scene and rescued the victims.
