MOROTO – Police in Moroto has Friday, September 27 arrested Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament (MP) Francis Zaake.

News of Zaake’s arrest was confirmed by a handler of his Facebook account, who said the youthful legislator had been ‘violently arrested’

“Hon. Zaake has been arrested in Moroto,” his handler posted.

The handler said that Mr. zaake is being driven in a United Nations Development Programme – donated Truck No. UAY 667Y to an unknown location.

His handler noted that arrest was conducted by plain-clothed police officers.

Mr Zaake and number of his People Power members were in Arua on Thursday for a meeting with their group leaders in West Nile, a sub-region of Northern Uganda.

‘Like I communicated yesterday, this is a continuation of our efforts to touch base with our People Power Youth Wing contact persons across Uganda.”

He also posted a photo of him in Lira District moments after the area Residential District Commissioner barred any people power activities in this district.

“The RDC of Lira District said he had ‘banned’ People Power from ‘his’ District. Does he think I was in New York yesterday?,” he posted before he crossed to Abim and Moroto where he was arrested from.

Zaake is one of the people power leaders who have built a large youth following through their criticism of long-time leader President Yoweri Museveni – who has been in power for 32 years – both in parliament and through his music.
