APAC – NRM presidential candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa has pledged to consolidate the achievements his government has made in Lango Sub region when given another term in office.
Addressing the people via radio in the sub-region on Wednesday evening, the incumbent president said social services have improved in the area since his government took place in 1986.
“There is massive building of new mabati houses in Lango. In Lira, around 60% of houses are mabati. In 1986, there were serious shortages of salt, soap, sugar, beer. When we brought back the Indians, they helped us to solve the problem of shortages, create jobs and increase tax collections. Tax collections are now 21 trillion, up from 5 billion in 1986,” Museveni said.
He added that health has been improved especially on the side of immunization and safe water. “We had a problem of Guinea worm which as been solved by the safe water. The problem of theft of drugs in health facilities shall be solved by the recently developed IT application,” he said.
Museveni also explained that in terms of infrastructure, Karuma dam which is the biggest hydro power dam has been completed.
“We have another dam in Agago. We are going to have another one in Oyam. The stretch from Karuma to Lake Albert shall be only power dams,” he added.
On the roads, the NRM candidate said Tororo-Mbale-Soroti-Lira-Kamdini is being expanded from 7 metres across to 15 metres. Rwenkunyu-Masindi Port-Lira-Puranga-Acholibur; construction works have been launched, he added.
On water, he said the plan is that every village gets a water point and for the towns, the plan is piped water.
For Irrigation, he said they are constructing different solar powered irrigation schemes in Lango.
“For Railway; we are reconstructing the old railway line from Tororo-Mbale-Soroti-Lira-Apac-Gulu. Cattle compensation; to solve this problem for once and for all, we have planned 50 billion for Lango, 50 billion for Acholi and 50 billion for Teso,” he said.
The President campaigned in Akere sub-county in Apac District and in Lira District.
