SOROTI – FDC presidential candidate Patrick Amuriat on Monday, 09 November 2020, had to brave through teargas fired by police as he made stopovers on his way on Soroti District to launch his campaign.
Riding atop an open roofed vehicle and in a convoy of about 20 cars all carrying senior FDC officials, Amuriat first made a stopover in Njeru Town, Buikwe District, to wave at his supporters. They gifted with muchomo, chicken and other gifts.
Police fired teargas at his supporters in Jinja Town and when he reached Mbale, the same was repeated as police tried to block him from driving through the city centre. When he managed to go through the city centre, police did not allow him to make any stopover to greet his supporters.
Police then escorted him up to Fiika Salama on Mbale-Bukedea border. But when he reached Fiika Salama, he moved out of the car and addressed supporters. He was given gifts, including a cock.
Police quickly intervened and fired teargas to disperse the FDC supporters, saying they were violating Covid-19 guidelines.
He then continued up to Soroti where he was received by hundreds of party supporters.
