KAMULI – The Electoral Commission has nominated Baroda Kayanga Watongola for Kamuli Municipality Member of Parliament to replace her deceased mother Rehema Watongola, who allegedly succumbed to COVID19 a fortnight ago.

According to Kamuli district returning officer Kenneth Kayabwe, the Electoral Commission is given the mandate to replace a candidate after one’s demise.

“Death robbed us of a leader and it merely put a coma not full stop to her political dreams for the municipality. I am honoured to be nominated to continue from the coma, ready to serve her people so that her spirit dwells in peace,” Ms Kayanga said after the nomination.

Ms Kayanga holds a Diploma in Community Based Rehabilitation from Kyambogo University where she is pursuing a degree in the same field.

Others in the race as Ms Mastula Namatovu (National Resistance Movement), Ms Moses Bigirwa (National Unity Platform) and Eng Godfrey Mugoya (Independent).

Watongola died on November 14 and was laid to rest on November 16, at Butende, Kamuli.
