KAMPALA – The scuffle between MP Gerald Karuhanga and his rival Yona Musinguzi for Ntungamo municipality parliamentary seat seems to has returned after the two were successfully nominated last week.

Ntungamo District Returning Officer Robert Baine flagged off six candidates to contest for Ntungamo municipality Member of Parliament seat come 2021.

This could have, in one way or the other, brought panic amongst the municipal residents as the contestation of the two candidates has always been do or die.

In 2016, several supporters of Karuhanga (the then Western youths MP) were tortured and some killed by supposedly Musinguzi suppoters who was the incumbent municipal MP on NRM ticket and had several Army sorrounding him throughout the election process.

Now, intending to serve his second term in the position in the 11th parliament, Karuhanga (ANT party) was proposed by Patrick Tumwesigye Matooba and seconded by Winnie Birungias Kenneth Katamirwa signed for him as his official agent.

Shortly after nomination, Karuhanga, addressed the Press conference and said he fulfilled most of what he promised in his 2016 campaign manifesto. The candidate also highlighted a number of projects already done like lighting the street lights, fighting poverty and hunger, lobbying the ministry of lands housing and urban development where his municipality was added among the only 22 towns that are being funded by USMID- programme who’re going to tarmac roads like Kajinya-Tindibakira road, Banyagi street and other roads.

He also disclosed that given another term of office, he will lobby the gov’t and NGOs abroad to ensure that his town becomes a model municipality and later becomes a city like Mbarara.

Others nominated candidates include;
Rumanzi Perez (FDC) who was proposed by Mugizi Denis Kaihurankuba (the Ntungamo Municipal FDC Chairman), and Seconded by Alice Kafooda Nakyanzi (CM. FDC district Women’s league) as Benon Nuwagira Ntendere (District Chairman FDC) signed for him as Official agent.

Edward Beyendeza Bekunda, an Independent candidate was proposed by Musinguzi Christopher Kabira, and seconded by his spouse Carolyn as Master Robert Tuzarirwe is the BEB campaign official agent.

Another independent candidate is Bishanga Moses Kafumba who was proposed by Lauben A.Kanuma and seconded by James Rwabukumba as Joseph Matsiko is the official agent.

In the race is also Ampereza Hillary (Independent). His name was proposed by Rebecca Nahabwe and seconded by Amina Abdulamina Ayubu as Betty Nuwarinda signed as his official agent.
