NTUNGAMO – The Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda has promised to advocate for reconciliation between Rushenyi county MP contestants Naome Kabasharira (Independent) and Mwesigwa Rukutana (NRM).
In the recent September NRM polls, party Eelectoral Commision made a shocking U-turn declaration of State Minister for Labour as the winner of the hotly contested elections for the Rushenyi county.
Dr Tanga Odoi, the NRM EC chairman, announced that after a vote re-count, Rukutana was the eventual winner, with 25,310 votes.
Rukutana’s 25,310 represented 46.27.% beating his close rival Kabasharira who got 25,290 votes 46.23%.
However, Kabasharira accused Dr Odoi of lying that he visited the four contested villages, saying that he was taken on a guided visit by Rukutana’s people.
Now, speaking during the reconciliation meeting for NRM flag bearers and losers in Ntungamo district council hall, Rugunda noted that he knows both candidates as NRM members and promised to stage a meeting for them so that they can solve the misunderstandings.
Rugunda said that he knows Rukutana, the former Deputy Attorney General as a very hard working legislator and that he performed a very good role when he represented the government in the case of “Togikwatako” in courts of law where NRM won.
Rugunda went ahead to campaign for Rukutana saying that he knows how to lobby for his constituency.
He also noted that he has known Rukutana for along time and admired his good performance in the Cabinet and therefore asked the people of Rushenyi not to lose him since he’s a Parliamentary material
The Prime Minister further advised the NRM people to unite and support only the flag bearers saying that a divided house cannot stand.
Rushenyi is likely to have a very hot election than before. Keep an eye on PML Daily for all updates ahead of 2021 polls.
