MBARARA – Dr. Robert Rukaari, the Chairman of the ruling NRM party’s Entrepreneurs League has defeated the incumbent Micheal Tusiime to win the flag for Mbarara city North.

Dr. Rukaari polled with 12,323 votes while Mr. Tusiime polled 3,356 votes.

Dr. Rukaari said after his victory: “The people of Mbarara City North have spoken. For me their message is clear, that they acknowledge and reward service. I am humbled and I thank you for the overwhelming confidence you have placed in me. Thank you and thank you again”.

He added: “My purpose to transform Mbarara City began long before I thought of joining elective politics. The same purpose has continued throughout the campaign and will continue even when I am in Parliament. I have come to serve my people, to give back to my home, to contribute to building a Mbarara City that will be the epitome of a city. Now that this election has been decided, I urge you all people of Mbarara City North let us come together and refocus our minds towards building our city. There is no Mbarara City North for candidate A or B, there is just one Mbarara City North. Let’s march as one front into the General Election and into Parliament with a clear message to empower the youth and women economically, socially and democratically. Working together we shall create jobs, build roads, factories and create market for our beef and milk. I urge you all to join me in this purpose”
