KAMPALA – Kampala Lord Mayor aspirant Joseph Mayanja better known as Jose Chameleone has refuted claims that he has joined Gen Mugisha Muntu’s Alliance National Transformation (ANT) party.
This comes shortly after posters of Chameleone have been making rounds on social media on an ANT ticket.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Chameleone told journalists that this is propaganda meant to tarnish his image and his vision for the city.
“This is fake propaganda which is intended to fail us,” he said.
Chameleone was denied National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket in favour of Kawempe north legislator Latif Ssebagala who has also bowed out of the mayoral race saying that his decision is for the good of opposition.
Ssebagala told journalists on Tuesday, 22 September 2020 that the decision has been made with the interests of the party and Opposition in general at heart.
“I have taken this decision in the best interest of the wider opposition and also given the fact that we have many conflicting interests as NUP …I apologise to all Ugandans and to all those who have put their trust in me,” he added.
Other contestants for Kampala mayoral race include; the incumbent Erias Lukwago (FDC) and Daniel Kazibwe(NRM) commonly known as Ragga Dee as well as Beatrice Mayanja (DP).
Chameleone has since vowed to continue with his bid for the seat but is not clear is whether he will stand as independent or join another party.
