NATIONWIDE – Early results in Friday, September 4 primaries for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag-bearers for MP seats indicated massive ‘casualties’ for the big boys and girls including senior ministers.

In Bushenyi, early results indicated that General Duties Minister Mary Karooro Okurut was headed for an overwhelmingly defeat to newcomer Annet Katusiime Mugisha, who won in all sub-counties of the district, including Kyabugimbi, Kyeizooba, Bumbaire and Bitooma.

In Sheema, Science Minister Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye was headed for defeat for the Sheema Municipality flag against former Commissioner for Customs at the Uganda Revenue Authority, moneybag Dickson Kateshumbwa.

In Koboko, Dr. Charles Ayume was ahead of Investments Minister Evelyn Anite, though the race was too close to call. With 33 of the 36 polling stations counted, Ayume led with 5,988 votes to Anite’s 4,917.

In Kazo, Molly Kamukama, the Economic Monitoring Minister and former Principal Private Secretary to President Museveni was too trailing Jennifer Muheesi.

The NRM went to primaries on Friday with the police flagging off Sheema, Sembabule, Koboko and 12 other districts as potential hotspots of violence. Others flagged as hotspots include Kassanda, Kazo, Bundibugyo, Sironko, Mbale, Hoima, Koboko, Adjumani, Kashongi, Kampala, Wakiso and Hoima
