KAMPALA – The chairman of the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Mr Wasswa Biriggwa, on Tuesday, 18 August 2020 picked party presidential nomination forms.

Mr Biriggwa, who is seeking to carry the FDC flag bearer in the 2021 general elections, told party members at their headquarters in Najjanakumbi that he is seeking to ensure equal share of the national cake by all Ugandans.

He added that the country is being bedevilled by tribalism, which he said has thrived under the ruling NRM party.

“Tribalism is one of the most pressing issues in our country right now. When I become President, with your support, we shall eliminate every kind of it from our country,” he said.

Biriggwa’s move comes hours after party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat also declared his intentions to hold the party’s presidential flag in next year’s polls.

The two leaders offered themselves after Dr Kizza Besigye declined to stand again.

Dr Besigye has been holding the party flag in all the previous elections, first in 2001 under the Reform Agenda pressure group which later morphed into FDC in 2004. He contested again in 2006, 2011 and 2016.

The four-time presidential candidate for FDC was in 2006 elections nominated in absentia.

The party has since 2018 been courting Dr Besigye to contest against president Museveni but he turned down the offer on grounds that he cannot participate in another “Sham” election organised by the current Electoral commission when the reforms he has been asking for have not been worked upon.

The picking of nomination forms started today August 18 and ends on Wednesday, August 19, the deputy party spokesperson Mr John Kigonyogo says.

He said the aspirants will return the nomination forms on August 25.
