MUKONO – The outgoing Vice-Chancellor of Uganda Christian University (UCU) Rev. Canon Dr. John Senyonyi has asked graduates to keep their appetite for power and wealth in check.
“Be freed from selfishness. You cannot inherit the whole without self-injury and without hurting others, especially your prosperity,” he added
Rev Senyonyi made the remarks while presiding over the 6 part of the 20 graduation ceremony at UCU in Mukono.
Rev. Senyonyi urged the graduates to value their education, “you have gained, an education which has armed you with knowledge this will help you think and learn more.”
Citing Muhammad Ali a global boxing champion as he persevered through his training to the top he asked them to be preserved like other successful people.
“There are no shortcuts to accomplishment. You will not be a champion in any profession without perseverance.” He said
Rev. Senyonyi also urged the graduates “Do not be involuntarily defined by the next social context. Sit in the driver’s seat of your life and be an active participant in your destiny.”
Rev. Canon Sammy Wainaina from All Saints Cathedral in Kenya, Nairobi who was the guest of honor at the function asked the graduates to be Christians with integrity while at work.
“Most Christians today have no integrity, are Christians only in church and while at work they become like other people.” He said
Rev. Wainaina cautioned the graduates about politicians who buy them gifts to silence them.
He said: “Be careful about politicians who silence the church and people. They tend to buy you presents which compromise you and you fail to deliver the best work.”
